Deborah Jean Schulz, age 66, of Sturgis, SD, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Lippold Hospice Suite at Sturgis Regional Hospital, after a short battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Debbie was born in Sisseton, SD, on December 6, 1946, the daughter of John R. and Betty (Axness) Hanson. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1964, and entered into the Minneapolis Business College until 1966. In September of 1966, she married Virgil Leonard Schulz, her soul mate and high school sweetheart in Sisseton, SD. In August of 1984, Virgil and Debbie moved their family to the Piedmont/Sturgis area.
In her spare time, Debbie enjoyed attending events for her grandchildren (who called her Nana), oil painting, gardening, home decorating, camping, and traveling.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Virgil; her son, Dana Schulz and wife, Krysti, Piedmont, SD; her daughter, Lori Hoppe and husband, Rodell, Sturgis; her grandchildren, Seth Hoppe, Halli Schulz, Heidi Schulz, and Kaitlyn Hoppe; three brothers, Richard (Phyllis) Hanson, Sisseton, Bobby (Becky) Hanson, Sisseton, and Jim Hanson, Sturgis; and sister-in-law, Ember (Pat) Dady, Sisseton. She is also survived by many special cousins, nieces, aunts, uncles, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Jan Hanson.
Memorials have been established for the Sturgis Center of the Arts and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
