John L. "Lew" Davis passed away peacefully on April 22, 2021. He fought an extended and heroic battle against stage 4 pancreatic cancer for 18 months. We are mourning a loving and wonderful husband, father, brother, and great friend who would give the shirt off his back to help others, but mostly he was a loyal, patriotic veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard.

John was born on September 23, 1962 in Eugene, OR to Max and Barbara (Ashcraft) Davis. After graduating high school at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and he was ready to see the world!

Lew was preceded in death by his father, Max Davis, who faithfully served their community as a firefighter in Lane County.

Lew is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Davis, and two children, Cassidy C. Warren and Warren J. Davis. Lew is also survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Davis, and one sister, Debra Davis.

Honorably, John L. Davis served his country, fully dedicated to his duty as a Yeoman, "a servant to others", and retired after 20 years of faithful service. Mostly, Lew loved target shooting with his son, who both shoot "expert", enjoyed reading Clive Cussler books, watching football, and the camaraderie of fellow veterans, telling sea stories of his tours onboard the USCGC Polar Star (WAGB-10) in Antarctica, conducting ice breaking missions, and many other places.

Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on May 2, 2021 at the American Legion Post 315 in Box Elder, SD.

John's visitation will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, SD 57785. Committal service with military honors will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Flowers or memorial donations to a charity of the giver's choice may be sent to the family in care of Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
