Obituary

Loretta was born November 1, 1931, at home in Fairpoint, SD, to Earl Eugene and Elsie Edith (Pugh Nordeen) Remington. There she grew up on the ranch---her favorite pastime was riding horses at sundown and watching the sunset. She attended the Atall School through 8th grade then completed her schooling in New Underwood, SD, where she boarded the four years for high school.

When she was 17 years old, she attended a country dance at Union Center, SD, where she saw a handsome man across the room and said, "That's the man I am going to marry," and 2 years later on October 2, 1950, that is exactly what she did when Samuel and Loretta were united in marriage. They made their home in rural Meade County on the Chaney place until 1957 when they moved to a ranch in Watauga, SD. After 5 years, as a result of selenium poisoning found on the Watauga ranch, they returned to the Black Hills and moved into a small trailer on the place where the family currently resides. In 1966, they moved into the big house. The first thing Loretta did was to knock out a wall and put in a bathroom as she said she was not traipsing out with the kids to the outdoor privy. That was only the beginning of her many building projects.

Loretta was always a spiritual person and in 1968 she found what she had been searching many years for. She began her study of the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and was baptized on March 27, 1971, at the same time as her sister-in-law, Zeta. Serving her God, Jehovah was first and foremost in her life.

Loretta, 86, Sturgis, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Loretta is survived by her husband of 67 years, Samuel; children, Allan/Cassie, Bruce/Colleen, Sharry, Sandra, Twyla, Brandon, Lorrell/Caroline, Ladean, and Rose; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl, Melvin/Jean; sisters-in-law, Lucille, Fern, Lucy, Donna, and Zeta; many nieces and nephews; and special loved ones, Vicki and Erin Hindman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Elsie Remington; one sister, Eva Grandpre Neuheisel; and a brother, Cecil Remington.
